Advertisements

I feel like pulling my hair when a movie at its climax is interrupted by a silly ad for detergent powder. We all do. Watching extremely idiotic ads are a part of our life. It is a 'necessary evil.' And most of these ads have a stupid song that is catchy. So we find ourselves, sitting in a bus or car, humming to ourselves the tune of a song of the tune of the very advertisement that we loathe. Most famously "Washing Powder Nirma."
But the worst part of these ads are that they are all based on a simple theme: a boy attracting a girl. From Wagon Rs to Close Up, they all have to do with a boy-girl relationship. Why? Only Colgate and Dabur refrain from this crazy idea.
It may have attracted people once, but now it is the same old junk coming from ads from different companies. Close up, Fair and Handsome, Titan Eye+, Gillette.......the list is endless.
Why not come up with a novel idea? People would actually be pleased with a witty ad that catches their attention. Yet people persist.......it is like a fashion trend that cannot be stopped.
The only ads I appreciate are the Cadbury Gems ones, with the Pandas' funny antics and confusion upon seeing the gems. They are actually attractive and are a fun to watch, even if you do so again and again. so the company has responded and given more ads, which are just as entertaining.
Another trend I noticed were the "Jago Grahat Jago" in which they have totally unknown actors dress up like famous actors, along with a fake voice. This idea has led some actors to try to copyright their voice! People believe having a movie star in their advertisement will make the ad great and popular. This works on poor people, but not on the rich. I can imagine how a shoot would be.
[Star Bob stands smiling at the camera.] "I've come to know that ZigZagZoop is the perfect fairness cream for me. Want to know why?"
[The shoot is stopped for now. People put dark makeup on Bob, creating the impression that he had a darker skin. He goes in front of the camera again and slathers the cream on his face, still smiling. The shoot is cut, and Bob goes to the sink.] "Yuck! I hate this stuff. Smells bad......." he mutters to himself, [While washing the cream and the make up off. he goes back. The change is blocked by a simple transition.] "In two days, after I used ZigZagZoop, I had fairer skin.[He brings a meter to check] Use it, and enjoy the pleasures of life."[Shoot is cut. In the ad, they show Bob surrounded by girls. Afterwards-]
"All right, it's done. Now give me the money."
I mean seriously. Are we supposed to fall for that? If it was, I would say nice try; but its not, so: "Think better, Ad Makers."
And some are just simply random (Well done to Audi and BMW with a Subaru car in the background?):
