I wrote a speech for someone aspiring to become the President of the school.
“I will improve the school.” “I will do this.” “I will do that.” “So vote for me.”
Every year these words ring out in our assembly hall. Every year the candidate promises. Swears. Says. But never does.
We hear them every year, trust them, and are deceived. But yet again we hear them the next year, trust them, and are deceived. Our voting has become similar to “The Boy who cried Wolf”. Only the disbelieving part has not come yet.
The school may change for the better. The school may change for the worse. The candidate does not do anything. He sits with his friends, his life still the same as before he was elected. His promises? Forgotten. His duties? Forgotten. All he wanted to do was to win some merit. Not help the school. Not help the students. He can get admission easier if his resume says that he has been the President of Vibgyor High. It doesn’t mention what he did as President. It doesn’t even mention if he did anything to help. It simply states the fact.
What most people don’t realize is that it doesn’t matter if the school suddenly progresses when you are president. It only matters if you have done something. It doesn’t matter if your team wins a match. It matters only if you helped them win the match. All these promises or lies, which may have come true, and may not have, are simply the campaign. The one year long post is what tells us about the personality of the President.
