Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox is the second most used internet browser after (what else?) the Internet Explorer. However, in the near future, Firefox is bound to grab attention since IE 9 was the last browser for windows Vista and IE 8 for XP. That's right. IE 10 is exclusively for Windows 7. That is the first mistake that Microsoft made.
The latest stable version of Mozilla Firefox is 4.0, which released in April.
At the release of Google Chrome, Google promised fast development, with a new version every six weeks. Mozilla and Internet Explorer are also following suit, with Mozilla making rapid developments as well as enhancing features.

When Mozilla Firefox first released (version 1) on November 9, 2004, it was not seen as a potential threat to the Internet Explorer. Even when version 3.6 bagged around seven awards including product of the year, Bill Gates reportedly said that he "had tried Firefox" and "it was just another browser, not as great as Internet Explorer" and that he "did not see it as a threat to the dominance of the Internet Explorer." However, these words were proved false as a survey revealed that the amount of Firefox users in Europe surpassed the amount of IE users, making Firefox 3.6 the first Internet browser to do so.

Tumucumaque, also known as Firefox 4, released on April 28. On the day of its official release, it received 7.1 million downloads, failing to surpass the earlier Guinness World Record of 8 million downloads in the first 24 hours, made by Firefox 3. However, before the official release, 3 million people downloaded the second release candidate, resulting in the total downloads in the first day reaching a number slightly higher than 10 MILLION. However, there was no Guinness World Record representative on the campus, so the record was only broken unofficially.
As mentioned before, Tumucumaque was the latest stable release by the mozilla foundation. It introduced the idea of "personas" (which could be installed at www.getpersonas.com) as well as the revolutionary Firefox Panorama that allows you to group your tabs and name these groups. It also allowed firefox sync, using which you could access your work from any computer, as long as you knew your special username and password. But Tumucumaque was not even close to the last release by Mozilla this year. But in order for you to understand, I will need to explain some topics to you first.

Firefox has three stages of development: Nightly, Aurora, and Beta (which finally becomes the final browser) Nightly is highly unstable. It was originally called Minefield to show its instability, but Mozilla later changed the name. It is used to see what users think about the upcoming browser and any annoying or great moments that they had. Firefox receives this information and fixes the problem.
Next comes Aurora. This is more stable than Nightly, but serves the same purpose. And last, the beta. In this, all the features are added and reviewed. The browser becomes polished and it is soon released to the public.

I currently use Nightly Alpha 2 of the version 6. What about you?
